Overcomer Proclamation
We are OVERCOMERS today because we have made a conscious choice to be. We have fought to live in the moment, to accept our experiences as our past, and to take back control of our lives. We are still on a journey to overcome symptoms of our abusive experiences, however because we have decided to overcome these symptoms, they don't define us. Triggers and responses to trauma do arise, but we will not allow them to overtake us. Our identity is not limited to one experience in our life, no matter how traumatic this situation was. We don’t focus on the things that we feel that we have lost, but take this an opportunity to write a new script for our life and in this script we are stronger, wiser, courageous and at peace.
We proclaim today that we will no longer minimize the value of our lives to an abusive experience.
We will no longer live in the in the shadows of shame, self-blame, guilt and pain
We will not take ownership for the abuse that we received
We will no longer give others the power to label us and take on these labels as our identity
But we will take our lives back
We will find joy and peace within
We will create our own identity
We will be strong and courageous
We will find the faith to believe in a better future for ourselves
We will understand the impact that we can have on others
We will recognize our value
We will find our purpose
We will make our healing process a priority in our lives and commit to it
We will rename ourselves because we are no longer victims, but we are OVERCOMERS.
